Journey to Ithaca: The Voyage Home to Our Self

The greatest secret is that the journey
is already over before it has begun.
You are already there.
That one for whom you seek is already present.
Why is this a secret?
Because so few claim it.
Do you?
With your next breath?

Why This Course?

Journey to Ithaca: Our Voyage Home to Our Self is a sixteen-week experiential course that uses one of humanity’s oldest and most beloved stories — Homer’s Odyssey — as a map for the Soul’s journey home to itself.

The spiritual meaning of Homer's Odyssey centers on nostos (homecoming), representing the Soul's journey back to its true, divine nature through inner transformation, trial, and disillusionment. It is an allegory of the human spirit navigating the chaotic sea of existence to reach inner fulfillment (Ithaca) and unity with the divine, guided by wisdom (Athena). In other words, it is a story for our times!

Homer's Odyssey is a profound map of inner transformation: from the first stirring that something is missing, through encounters with beauty and danger, diving into the depths of our existence, the stripping away of everything false, and the return home to who we truly are.

Each week, we will follow a specific episode from Homer’s epic and explore its spiritual underpinnings through the wisdom of John-Roger's teachings, and how the Sound Current weaves into the story. We'll be including modern cultural touchstones on the story, such as the movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou; James Joyce's novel, Ulysses; Depth Psychology, all of which re‑imagine the story's profound themes in fresh, relatable, and meaningful ways.

We’ll uncover how Odysseus's trials are blueprints for our own lives. From the wisdom of Athena to the transformative encounters with Circe, Calypso, and the Sirens, we’ll explore how these figures serve as catalysts for change, navigating us through the obstacles that stand between us and our true Self. This ancient rhythm of departure, reconciliation with the unconscious, and return is more than just a story, it is a mirror of life's journey every one of us must take.

This course is for anyone who senses that something essential is calling them home at a deeper level and is ready to set out on this beautiful adventure in consciousness with fresh eyes. No prior knowledge of Homer, Joyce, or spiritual practice is required. The course provides experiential practices designed for each stage of the journey with guided meditations, inner listening exercises, journaling, and sharing with a community of fellow travelers. The Odyssey reminds us that no one makes this journey alone and that our destiny is guided, at every moment, by the Divine.

The sound is God’s name - God’s vibration being heard.

It’s a most beautiful sound. These sounds have all been described in mythologies. In the travels of Ulysses (Odysseus), there were references made to describing these sounds. For example, the Sirens, whose voices were so magnificently beautiful they became irresistible as though nothing else could matter. So the allegories of the sound of God, and the sound that comes from heaven, are in all these types of writing.
